The spirit of community that is fostered in young people by volunteering, can enrich their quality of life long term. It helps students to form meaningful bonds on a personal level with their peer volunteers, and connects them to community leaders that interact with them through projects.
Root122 is a volunteer organization at Summit International Preparatory in Arlington, TX. Mr. Davenport worked with his students in 2011 to conceive and build a program to encourage students to participate as volunteers, not only by joining in to the efforts of others, but to also to think of themselves as project organizers.
A talented marketing professional, Justin Downey, got on board early to help foster the image of Root122. He assisted in conducting a logo contest for the students, then refined the design and crafted a beautiful web site that documents the kids’ projects.
